International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8 March every year all around the world. I celebrate women in Champagne every day because I only use champagnes made by women in my champagne classes and tasting events. I also only take people to visit estates where women play an important role (CEO, cellar master, owner, winemaker, winegrower). I have been working with women in the wine industry for the last three years and it has opened up my eyes to their specific challenges. I feel it is important to take this opportunity to thank and celebrate the fearless women in Champagne today.

There are of course many women who paved the way in the past, like the incredible widows Madame Clicquot, Madame Pommery, and Madame Bollinger. We probably wouldn’t be drinking as much champagne today if they hadn’t developed the markets in Russia and England, or invented the riddling table, started using chalk pits to age bottles, or developed the rosé d’assemblage method, or created brut champagne.

Join me to celebrate women in Champagne. I will talk to you about the role of women and their innovations in the history of champagne. And we will of course sip champagne made by women. Nibbles will be provided.
